Prospects on a Pixar/Disney Future « Thread Started on Mar 12, 2005, 1:28pm »
I've been talking with some people "in the know" about recent affairs and activities between Pixar and Disney at the Boggs' Board. I'd have to credit this info to pitbulllady. She's a top authority on all things Pixar/Disney and the latest news on 'em, and her information has always been credible, so this isn't just some rumor. I brought up the TS3 article Buzz posted and here's what she said about it.

One thing many of us Pixar fans are holding out for, is the departure of Michael Eisner in 2006, when he retires. Maybe it's coincidental-maybe not-that the release date for the last official Pixar/Disney movie(under their current contract), which is "Cars", has been pushed back from fall 2005 to summer 2006. Eisner is scheduled to leave in early 2006. It also shows promise that Pixar has not entered into talks with any other studios as of this time. What insiders and fans are hoping for is that once Eisner is gone, Steve Jobs will renew talks with Bob Iger, Eisner's replacement, with whom Jobs reportedly gets along with much better. Nothing would make me happier than a "M.I.2" made by Pixar, distributed by Disney, with both sharing equally in the profits AND ownership of the characters!
Also, a discussion on having Chris Sanders (the genius behind Lilo & Stitch) do a "M.I.2" - if Disney did it instead of Pixar - led us to this other snippet of promising news, also from pitbulllady. . .

The problem is, NO director wants to make a sequel of a Pixar movie without Pixar, not even Sanders! THey just don't to touch what they, like the rest of us, see as sacrosanct material, for fear of not doing justice to the originals. It's turning out that actors, as I predicted, don't want involvement either. Yesterday in an interview, actor John Ratzenberger, who's been in every Pixar film, stated that he would NOT be part of "Toy Story 3" unless Pixar was involved, calling himself a Pixar team member and swearing his loyalty to them. I would be willing to bet you'll see many of the other 'name-brand" actors who have starred in Pixar films say the same thing, which is all the more reason for Disney and Pixar to remain together.

Iger has already started negotiations about a new contract with Pixar. I don't know all the details just this from a presentation one of my roomates went to the other day with the archiver for Disney. But I'll try and see if I can get a bit more info out of him because were supposed to be going to the comedy club at P.I. tonight. (don't ask me why I''m going I just need to get out of the house lol) .

Alright, cool.
Yeah, I heard not long after I posted this that Eisner stepped down and Iger took up his job. My friends say he's called somewhat of a "Mini-Me-Eisner", but I'm not sure to what extent. Hopefully, he can come up with a fair deal between Disney and Pixar.
