This is wrong!! I think Disney is just doing this to make Pixar mad, and what they don't realize is that they are makeing the fans mad as well. Pixar's contract is up and they will split after "Cars" (which looks totaly awsome) leaving Disney to fend for themselves and lets face it, the past 5 or so Disney movies have been utter trash. I can't really remember what the last Disney movie I enjoyed fully was, I think it was the Lilo and Stitch, anyways I started disliking their movies starting with Brother Bear, maybe something before that but it was probably such a stupid movie it doesn't even hold a memory spot in my brain. But Disney is screwed because for such a long time Pixar was the one bringing in the money. Why? Because Pixar has creative people capable of making an interesting and original story plot. Disney just has a bunch of people animateing fairy tales from all over the world, they're running out of fairy tales and when left to think of original story lines they just don't have it. Disney is now trying to do their own computer animation and it is just horrable when compared to Pixar (They have that Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas and a movie comeing out next year called Chicken Little (which looks retarded)), I think it was SpazRanger who said Disney is trying to be ghetto Pixar, and it's true. Stick to traditional animation Disney, you shine there. The CG animation isn't what I go to see, sure it's a plus but I don't care how good the animation is, if the story can't carry the film then I'm not going to watch it. The animation in Brother Bear was great, but I didn't think the story line was good enough for my likeing. It's like Star Wars, I will watch the original trillogy over and over again but I haven't seen episode 1 or 2 since it was released on video. Why? Because even though the original Star Wars had not so good SFX because they were made in the 70s and 80s the characters had heart and the story lines were solid. George Lucas didn't need fancy 3D effects to keep people interested, he had a good story. The later films just didn't do it for me really, I enjoyed them, but not enough, the SFX were great, awsome job, but the story was lacking. You need a solid story and memerable characters if you want it to be number one in the box office.
Not only will Disney screw up the story lines royaly with their awful writers but I fear for the characters. If they screw up Buzz Lightyear I will kick their butts. If they get another voice actor instead of Tim Allen I will kick their butts. I do not want to see Toy Story with Patrick Warburton, OK you had to do it for the TV series, he was a good voice actor but still not the original, but this is the original Buzz we're talking about, they can not just change voice actors, that would be blasphomy! Do not replace Tom Hanks with Jim Hanks his brother (The voice of the Toys R Us giraffe) similar voices but not the same. Do not screw with their characters either, I do not want to see OOC Buzz and Woody, they better get people who know these characters by hart or else it'll go down the tubes. The people will not be happy. If this movie goes through I'm seriously concidering not watching the movie at all as a protest against this. This isn't like fan fiction or fan art, this is for real, this will determine how people see the characters, how they will be characterized and will change their world with a whole new story plot, you can NOT do that, it's just wrong.
So yeah I think Disney is doing this to tick off Pixar like "Haha now you HAVE to come back or else we will totally screw up Toy Story >:)" which if you think of it is blackmail.

Sweet mother of Venus! This can't happen! If they make some retarded movie like alot of the past Disney ones have been, I'm going to protest! In fact, I'm going to boycott Disney movies altogether unless they get their act together and make decent DISNEY-STYLE movies again. They're trying too hard to be something they're not and it's eventually going to ruin them.
But I agree with you Nick, they're probably doing it to get back at Pixar, because since The Incredibles is doing just as stellarly as their last movies (and better than Disney's recent ones) Disney's getting really annoyed. I think they're doing it out of spite. Sorta like, "Oh yeah? We can do a Toy Story 3 that'll sell out better than TS2 did!"
If they screw up Buzz Lightyear and the other characters, I'm gonna explode. That's the worst crime of all.

Not one of those smileys is mad enough GRRRR!!!!!!!!
How can they do that!!?? Disney will screw it up! They will screw it up BIG TIME! They're movies have sucked the past few years. Like I said, they want to be ghetto Pixar and that's exactly what they will be, ghetto. I do NOT want to see bootleg Toy Story. And if they switch voice actors boy oh boy will they get letters of complaints. Toy Story is the original Lightyear that's for sure, you can't screw around like that. I know Jim Varney is dead and Slinky Dog needs to be replaced, which is why even though it would be nice to see TS3 (if Pixar does it, Disney can go jump in a lake) I don't think they should because not all the characters will be back, it won't be the same without Jim Varney and Slinky Dog. They just can't write for someone elses characters like that, they will never get it right! That's an awfull thing to do to a character. Fan fiction is as you said a whole other story of course because people aren't claiming it to be the one true story, but Disney is and will. They should just give Pixar back the rights to their stories and characters. Buzz Lightyear belongs to Pixar and John Lasseter, you can't steal people's creations like that. It's not like another company taking Maytag's washer and dryer design and makeing them and marketing them, because a washer and dryer only works one way, but these are people's thoughts, people's ideas, Buzz, Woody, Jessie, Rex, they all were created in the heads of those people and only they know how to write and animate for them. Where the heck does Disney get off thinking they can do just as good a job? Their computer animation stinks, they don't have the programs that Pixar has developed for themselves to make their animation great, Disney will totaly belittle that story line if they make it a sequal, they will. Like you said, it's black mail. Disney is dangling this saying "Looky what we got " trying to get them to sign on again, or else. They're holding these characters and this story hostage.
