Considering there's a serious shortage of good fics in this fandom, I decided to start one. It's mostly about NOS-4-A2. Zurg has this new cyborg he wants to test the combat abilities of, and as the Hornets are their usual cannon fodder selves, he has the energy vampire rebuilt to give the cyborg something that will actually give her a decent fight.
I know what you're probably thinking: 'NOS-4-A2 would rebel and/or try to kill Zurg!' But Zurg's taken precautions by installing a loyalty chip that can override the vampire's actions should he decide to get rebellious. NOS-4-A2 would know what was happening, he just can't do anything about it. And the chip has the added bonus of a punishment device linked to a remote control; all Zurg has to do is press a button and his minion will be writhing in agony at his feet.
Can you say potential for angst? I see NOS-4-A2 as someone who wants to be in control of himself and his environment at all times, and this little development totally screws that up. He wouldn't be all weepy about it, but he would be pretty angry, at Zurg and at himself. Hell, the vampire tried to take over the universe but only wound up destroyed and then rebuilt as Zurg's slave.
The cyborg, named Lyssa, makes this a bit more tolerable for the energy vampire. No, they DON'T fall in love, she's still semi-organic and he's a robot so I don't see that working out. At first they kind of tolerate each other, and eventually become friends as they're kindred spirits in a way. They both hate Zurg, and would like nothing more than to be free from him. As for what happens afterwards, who knows? (I can see them as being bounty hunters, though . . .)
So, what do you think? Does it sound good to you?
