I rememberd reading an old post back on the yahoo group about what people thought Star Command was. A millitary or a Police force? I have come to the conclusion that Star Command is in fact a millitary. Here is the evidence so I don't look like some sort of dictating idiot lol.
1. Buzz says in the episode "Strange Invasion" that he is a millitary man himself "I'm a millitary man myself. And so is Mira, well except she's a woman." 2.In the episode "War and Peace and War" Commander Nebula also says it's a military. "I'm as pro peace as any other pro Millitary Commander but...." 3. A unit of the USA army is also known as the Rangers. 4. They take their orders from the president just as the US army takes their orders from the President of the United States.
There was another instance where Buzz refers to himself as a millitary official but I can't remember what episode it was :S. Anyways there you have it, proof that Star Command is a millitary not a police academy ^_^. He's just a futuristic Millitary and or a millitary of another galaxy in the same time frame.

well i never though of them as cops lol, but there are a few eps where buzz gives away parking tickets and infraction tickets when some one is against the laws , like in the ep where Booster and mira are frozen by the butler robots, he gives a ticket to the owners of the ship at the end of the epsisode, i don't remember the reason though

All good points. I remember seeing something at the Toon Disney website once about Buzz being a futuristic cop or something. Though personally I've always thought of them as being something in between cops and military.

I agree, I've always thought that Star Command was a millitary myself. But never actually went looking for the evidence due to lake of time and motivation lol. But you got the best peice of evidence, the characters actually saying what it is. But yeah I think they are in a galaxy and or time where it's a combination of Democracy and a millitant government. A democracy because they do have voting and rights but on the same time millitant because the Millitary is in control without any local lawy enforcement.

I agree wholeheartedly with you there. I always viewed SC as a military establishment - not a police force, although they do seem to take over some jobs that police do (traffic duty and etc). But that's just probably because the Galactic Alliance doesn't really have a police force - just the Space Ranger Corps.
